At American Apparel, we've always felt strongly about the subject of immigration.
Even as early as 2003, we were running ads and putting up billboards calling for
reform. Today this issue is more contentious than ever and we feel the time is ripe
for individuals, companies, and communities to speak out honestly about it.
Here is footage from this year's annual May Day parade for immigration reform and
immigrant's rights.

Join us at our downtown LA factory this Saturday, May 1, to march in the annual May Day parade for immigration reform and immigrant's rights. Meet our workers and support the cause. We'll rally at the factory at 1 PM and leave PROMPTLY at 1:30 to join the rest of the marchers downtown. With the recent passage of unjust immigration policy SB 1070 in Arizona, now is a better time than ever to speak up

![]() Me + You *#75*! This semisesquicentennial edition of the program represents a milestone occurrence in Viva history - not just in numerical terms but it also marks the first time an artist has ever returned only to exceed his/her function in that of the previous session. Jibber jabber what? You may recall Naked Fridays pt. 35 featuring Julian Casablancas. Well, he came back. For Me + You! A lot has seemed to change between these two very different programs, or rather a *little* change has made a big difference. JC is a dad! Alright, that might not have made the biggest impact on the actual performance but it has to be noted. Perhaps it has filtered into his overall comportment: he returned to our studio as a bandleader. With a real crew including a couple of guitar samurais and a soundguy, Julian ironically thwarted the "acoustic" concept and ran his vocals through a tiny tinny bass amp to achieve that classic Casablassic pop radio sound. Pop he is... You'd know if you took a listen to his late 2009-released Phrazes For The Young album *OR* the 2 tracks from said record included in this performance. The arresting "River Of Brakelights" is quite a galloper, jumping from key-change to key-change with quite a lot of 8th-note riffage. Excecuted on acoutic guitars, once can't help but picture a lute-down at a Renaissance Fair as JC does make a similar quip. Who'd have thunk that it was 3 dudes sitting in a booth - yes, Jules is sitting down on the ground as he belts these numbers out! "Glass" hears the man hit a lovely high note or two while slowing it down, while the closer "Old Hollywood" (an iTunes exclusive bonus track?) brings the mood down even further. Casablancas often does sound totally self-assured yet shambolic, with a voice that sounds good while not necessarily being good - like a drunkard, it sounds as if he's giving up on himself one moment, then a second later he's totally on point and off-kilter with the strain and growl that catapulted him and his cronies in The Strokes to megastardom. He's the epitomical NYC bag of mixed emotions, with plans full of holes that only lead to more golden opportunities as evidenced on this diamond edition of M+Y. One would say that the best decision he's made recently was to pay us this second visit, which we appreciated greatly. So be courteous and give it a listen, hey? Airs Monday, April 19 @ 12! And again at 12:30.
